Mercedes’s new GLB and GLC SUV/Crossover sit in the sweet spot of 4.7 meters in
length and in the former offers a 7-seat option, while satisfying everyone with a
propulsion choice of all-electric, hybrid petrol or diesel in the GLB, whilst silent
electric progress awaits the owners of the GLC.
These new C-segment crossovers scream their heritage from first glance, with more
stars twinkling back at you than a stroll through Hollywood, a statement of pride on
one side, but undoubtedly a gauntlet flung at the competition.
Irish Motoring Journalists got to share the company of these new star-cars at their
launch , the short south-city test drives an aperitif to a longer, more comprehensive
liaison. No question, these are premium products that will appeal to families with the
seat and space of the GLB, while the GLC is a more svelte choice, both cosseting you
in the manner becoming of being a Mercedes-Benz.

Mercedes GLB
First things first – The GLB is available in electric and hybrid electric versions, with
an electric range up to 624km, coming in four all-electric and five hybrid electric
variants priced from €59,355.
With great family appeal, the longer, wider, and slightly lower roofline GLB, will
appeal to those transporting our next generation. The adjustable second row allows
for the owner to configure its seven-seat layout around passengers or luggage as
required. Rear seat room is best suited to the smaller folk, adult comfort sourced in
the front and second rows. Luggage capacity is 540/480 litres increasing to 1715/605
litres with rear seats folded. Electric models come with an added 127-litre frunk at its
front.
Additional features include faster interior heating, extensive driver/parking
assistance systems, battery protection, and bi-directional charging capability.
The popularity of Crossovers is endorsed with the ease in which rear access to the
vegan trim and upholstery is attained. This is particularly satisfying should parents
wish to avail of any of the five ISOFIX seating points available reducing back exertion
considerably.
Models in the electric range are:
GLB 200 (with 58kWh battery and 425km WLTP range)
GLB 250 (with 71kWh battery and 521km range)
GLB 250+ (with 85kWh battery and longest-in-line 624km range)
GLB 350 4MATIC all-wheel drive (with 85kWh battery and 607km range)
All with 10% - 80% charging time from 20 minutes.
Hybrid models are:
GLB 180 (136bhp/200Nm)
GLB 200 (163bhp/250Nm)

I must admit to liking the immediate look of the all-electric GLC, helped by its
redesigned chromed grille, sleeker silhouette and more pronounced wheel arches.
Once inside, you are greeted by a debut feature, the latest fourth generation MBUX
infotainment system which comes with integrated Microsoft, Google AI, and
Superscreen. A panoramic glass roof, memory seats, driver assistance with multiple
cameras and sensors, as well as a ‘starry-sky’ night lighting effect add to your sense of
being special.

Mercedes-Benz as the first to embody new design language that will feature in future
models.
Welcoming their introduction, Patrick Howlett, National Sales Manager, Mercedes-Benz
Ireland commented: “The arrival of the new GLB and GLC BEV marks a defining moment for

electric and petrol-hybrid versions, and the current GLC also remaining available alongside
