New Citroen C5X brings French flair to the D-segment

First glance

First impressions of Citroen’s new C5X and it captures your attention. With looks of a large saloon/estate, this new arrival into the D-segment of Irish motoring ticks the SUV box also, and will be available with a choice of petrol and plug-in hybrid versions.

Pricing for the New C5 X starts from €36,990 or from €359 per month with 2.9% APR finance.

No question, this looks like a Citroen from across any car-park, the twin-chevrons on the front and at the rear emphasizing its identity. At the front, its extended bonnet high belt line, LED headlights and daytime running lights, as it sits on 19” alloy rims, all combine to give this new C5X a study street-stance that please the eyes.

Inside Story

Once inside, the brightness and acoustics on board the C5 X is optimised by the 360-degree windows, including rear quarter panel windows. The use of acoustic laminated front and rear windows provides insulation from outside noise. A 10” touchscreen introduces the new fully customisable My Citroën Drive Plus infotainment system, an infotainment system with natural voice recognition allowing the driver to interact easily and naturally with the vehicle. The screen size increases to 12” from the Flair trim level. As well as the 7-inch digital driver display, the extended Head-Up Display in front of the driver projects important driving information onto the windscreen including navigation, to ensure the driver’s eyes stay on the road at all times – an excellent option. 

Seats, front and rear courtesy of Citroën ‘s Advanced Comfort programme, are formed with high-density sheet and 15mm thicker foam. The C5 X runs, as standard on Citroën’s Advanced Comfort suspension, a Citroën innovation which, by filtering out all obstacles, from potholes and ditches to speed bumps and other road unevenness.

Engines

Those choosing Petrol for their C5 X get a 1.2 litre Puretech, 130hp engine, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. Additionally, the C5 X will also be available with a 1.6 litre Puretech, 180hp engine, also featuring an 8-speed automatic transmission.

The Plug-in Hybrid version features a 1.6 litre petrol engine paired with an 80kW electric motor to deliver a combined power output of 225hp. The 13.2kWh battery offers a possible driving range of 55 km in 100% electric mode. The Plug-in Hybrid version also includes handy features including delayed charging and cabin pre-conditioning via the MyCitroën app. A full charge can be completed in 2 hours using a wall box connection.

Trim Levels

Specification choice for the new C5 X will begin with Feel model, increasing to a Feel Pack, Flair and the range topping Flair Pack.

The Feel model comes well equipped with;

·       10-inch touchscreen with My Citroën Play and

·       Keyless entry & start

Flair brings;

·       an upgraded 12-inch touchscreen paired with

·       the new eHUD Head-Up Display projected directly on to the windscreen.

Flair Pack offers comfort and convenience with heated front seats and motorised rear tailgate.
