Kamiq Cometh – Kamiq Here

Kamiq is the latest model to join the Škoda SUV menu. The Kamiq is the smallest of their SUV offerings, is based on Volkswagen Group’s MQB-A0 platform, and is an ideal option for those looking to go high-rise but not needing to go large. The Kamiq goes on sale in Ireland from 4th November from €21,300 for the 1.0 TSI, 95bhp Active. Competitive PCP finance is also offered from 2.9% APR.

Kamiq Short Drive

I drove the Kamiq over a short urban, rural and motorway route at its Irish launch and found it to be effectively like all Škoda’s – hard to fault!

Build quality outside and in is really good, the interior a very pleasant place to be, especially as the clouds above had decided to do an autumn clean, chucking every ounce of liquid it could onto us below.

Kamiq First Impression

The 2020 Kamiq wears its family lineage from any angle, its unmistakable. It comes however with split headlights, featuring daytime running lights above the main headlights and dynamic front and rear indicators.

Kamiq Size

Size wise, the Kamiq is 20mm longer; has 24mm more headspace and is the same width as the Škoda Yeti that ceased production in 2017. No rear logo is affixed to the rear, instead it has the family name Škoda, in block letters for all to see.

Kamiq Engines

Engine choice in the Kamiq is three TSi petrol engines with cylinder capacities of 1.0 or 1.5 litres and a 1.6 litre TDi producing 70 and 110kW (95 to 150BHP). The engines can be coupled with a 5- or 6-speed manual gearbox or a 7-speed DSG.

The Kamiq’s interior places the driver in an elevated position, with enough space on my short drive for two substantial adult males to share its space without complaint. Boot capacity is 363 litres, which can be increased to 1,360 litres by folding down the split back seat (60:40).  Fit and finish, added to the materials used work very well and again, are without complaint.

Kamiq Safety

Safety on the Kamiq is equipped with up to nine airbags including a driver knee airbag and front side airbags as standard.

Kamiq Trim Grades

Kamiq trim grades are Active, Ambition and Style. Customers choosing Active and Ambition models get as standard:

  • 6.5-inch Swing touch screen infotainment system
  • LED headlights and tail lights
  • Lane Assist
  • Front Assist with City Emergency Brake
  • Predictive Pedestrian Protection
  • Multi-Collision Braking

Style versions receive the 8.0-inch Bolero infotainment unit and full LED headlights with AFS and dynamic front and rear indicators.

Škoda Ireland Head of Marketing & Product, Ray Leddy, commented, “The Kamiq is another excellent product from Škoda.  We are very ambitious for this new model and expect the Kamiq to follow in the footsteps of the Karoq & Kodiak. The Kamiq has already seen unprecedented sales success on the continent; as a result, demand is expected to outstrip supply in many markets including Ireland. We would advise customers to order early to avoid disappointment.”
