While the Garda Síochána welcome their first silent street van to the public, there
will be no mistaking its presence. The 100% electric Kia PV5 will be used as a single
cell universal patrol vehicle with space for up to four Gardaí and one person at their
pleasure.
Visually, the PV5 will magnetise eyes from every direction. I don’t think I have ever
seen so much Battenburg since I last visited the kitchens of Gateaux in the Finglas
HQ.
Having had the experience of using the civilian version of this 5-seater from Kia, I
can vouch for its user-friendliness, a friend’s wedding down the South-east an ideal
opportunity to sample its talents of coping with luggage, passenger and electrical
range. Suffice it to say all on board were very happy with their perch, the vast cargo
space consuming the overnight cases, suit carriers and additional needs of all. Kia’s
figure of over 400km range allowed for us to travel to Enniscorthy return without
fretting on re-charging.
The PV5, is the first model in Kia’s Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) strategy and is
purpose built to meet the evolving needs of modern transportation, the PV5 offers a
smarter, more adaptable, and user-focused solution for modern transportation
needs. All versions will feature a 71.2 kWh battery and 120 kW Electric motor as
standard with a WLTP range of up to 412km.
