Irish motoring journalists from print, online and broadcasting cast their votes on category winners in the 2022 Continental Tyres Irish Car of the Year national awards, the results announced last Friday, 11th February, at a special event, held at Aviva Stadium in Dublin.

Opel Ireland celebrated a double podium at this year's awards, their all-new Opel Mokka crowned Irish Small SUV of the Year 2022, while the zero-emissions Opel Vivaro-e, took home the Irish Van of the Year 2022 gong.

A delighted James Brooks, Managing Director at Leeson Motors, Opel Importer in Ireland, said: "Team Opel Ireland is thrilled with these two prestigious awards. There can be no doubt, the Opel renaissance is clear for all to see."

James continued: "The all-new Mokka, available in petrol, diesel and battery electric with a range of up to 338km (WLTP), sports Opel's new Vizor front face on the outside and Pure Panel cockpit on the inside. A winner of the Golden Steering Wheel 2021 in Germany and hailed Top Gear's Design of the Year winner in late 2021, it now adds Irish Small SUV of the Year 2022 to its trophy cabinet."

"The all-electric Vivaro-e, International Van of the Year 2021, was Ireland's best-selling electric van in January, taking 32.8% of the emerging EV market. Indeed, Opel almost doubled its light commercial vehicle share this January, to take a 13.8% market share, compared to 6.97% in January 2021. The Continental Tyres Irish Van of the Year 2022 gong, is gratefully shared with our sister brands, Peugeot and Citroen."

Tom Dennigan from awards sponsor, Continental Tyres said: "After missing out on a 2021 Irish Car of the Year awards programme, we are delighted to be back with these awards for 2022 as the whole programme provides a great guide to Irish motorists on what the best and latest cars coming onto the Irish market are."

Opel now looks ahead to a host of new model launches in 2022. The new Grandland arrival is imminent, followed by the all-new Astra this summer. A rapid electrification offensive will see the spring launch of the Combo-e compact panel van, the Combo-e Life compact MPV, the full-sized Zafira-e Life MPV and the Movano-e large panel van.
