Dancing in the Dark with new Jeep Compass at Slane Castle

Published on 02nd June 2026 at 12:09

We can justifiably call it by its name, one that every Sports Utility Vehicle on our
planet is referred to, its seven-bar grill and American heritage as rock and roll as they
come. So, it was more than appropriate that Slane Castle was the chosen launch
venue for the latest Jeep Compass to take the Irish stage for the first time.
Truly wonderful weather allied to all that Slane Castle had to offer, provided a nigh-
on sensory overload to our introduction to this new mid-size Crossover from Jeep
and the Stellantis Group. Being one of the worlds top outdoor concert venues, even
the surrounding trees seem to resonate with the history of those who rocked the
natural amphitheatre of the Castle.
Bruce, ‘The Boss,’ would certainly have approved both this new car and the venue,
the latter going some way to prove its adaptability to absorb change and deliver
performance for the modern audience.
Propulsion Choice
In this year where Jeep celebrates its 85 th Anniversary, this 2026 Jeep Compass
offers full electric and hybrid propulsion in front-wheel drive as an initial choice,
with further powertrain options coming on stage later, including, a 145hp 48V e-
Hybrid, a 195hp e-Hybrid Plug-in and three full-electric versions, ranging from a
213hp front-wheel drive version up to 375hp in all-wheel drive powertrain.
The 2026, all-new Jeep Compass is available now in Jeep Dealers nationwide, with
both hybrid and electric versions starting from €42,995 RRSP.
John Saunders, Managing Director at Jeep Ireland commenting at the launch, said,
“The all-new Jeep Compass represents exactly where the brand is heading in Ireland.
It brings together electrified performance, real-world versatility and genuine
freedom of choice for customers at a time when many are deciding to start their
electric journey. Launching it at Slane Castle feels entirely appropriate. It is a place
defined by history, character and unforgettable moments, which mirrors what Jeep
stands for. A vehicle equally suited to commuting as it is to weekend adventures.”
Compass Charging
Those choosing the Compass EV get a range of up to 500kms, a quick charging time,
courtesy of a rapid 160kW DC solution that offers a 30 minute 20-80% recharging
time, and an onboard charger with up to 22kW. Such is the technical progress of EV’s
that we will later welcome an extended range version offering up to 650 km.
Jeep, synonymous with the rugged and the wild, continues its “Freedom to Choose
Electric” initiative in Ireland, first introduced in 2025. This programme allows
customers who choose electric to switch to a hybrid powertrain within 90 days if they
feel a fully electric model is not the right fit for them. It also includes common
pricing on hybrid and electric versions, giving Irish customers true freedom when
deciding to go electric.

Interior Space
Inside the Jeep, the cabin is cleanly designed and accommodated my six-foot plus
frame without complaint, my rear passengers enjoying an extra 20 mm of legroom.
Boot space has been increased from the former to 550 litres, 45 litres extra than
before, with front storage offering 34 litres for those everyday items.
Drive Modes
A rotary selector, an electronic parking brake button and a rubberised Selec-Terrain
switch placed within easy reach, allows operation even on rough terrain. Five
Driving Modes are standard on all versions, Auto, Sport, Snow, Sand/Mud, and,
Electric (exclusive to e-Hybrid Plug-in version)
Semi-Autonomous Compass
On this 2026 Jeep Compass we get Level 2 autonomous driving as a standard
feature. The safety package is enhanced by features such as the Predictive Adaptive
Cruise Control (P-ACC) and Semi-automated Lane Change. The P-ACC retains all the
benefits of the traditional ACC Stop&Go but adds the ability to adapt the speed
according to road profile, speed limits, and upcoming curves or roundabouts. The
system automatically slows down before a bend and accelerates smoothly once the
road straightens, ensuring greater serenity behind the wheel.
The Semi-automated Lane Change function, available between 70 and 180 km/h,
assists the driver when changing lanes by performing gentle steering adjustments to
guide the vehicle into the intended lane, delivering a safer and serene driving
experience.
Compass Colours
Six colour choices are available to new Compass owners, my test car a vivid Hawaii
bright brilliant green. The colour range varies from the Pacific (blue), Antarctica
(white) Amazonia (green with brown hues), Yosemite (grey) and finally, Vulcano
(black)
Off-Road Intentions
Should you choose to take the Jeep Compass into the giggle-weeds, it comes with
ground clearance of up to 200mm, an approach angle of 20 degrees, with a
breakover angle of 15 degrees and a departure angle of 26 degrees. I got the
opportunity to meander through the green lanes of the Slane Castle estate, where my
new Compass Hybrid hummed its way with ease. Those looking to water cross a ford
have a depth of up to 470mm on the Compass menu highlights its ability to tackle the
most challenging environments.
For the 262-registration period, Jeep is supporting the launch with a range of
customer offers, including:
 Finance from 3.9%
 5-year warranty
 Free home charger with eligible electric models

 Freedom to Choose Electric (common pricing with 90 days EV satisfaction
peace of mind)
