Dacia Bigster has arrived in Ireland, ready to go bumper to bumper in the country’s largest
segment, that of the super-competitive C-SUV, priced at under €30,000 with a three-year
warranty.
Beepbeep.ie got the chance to sample the Bigster at its recent Irish launch, and came away
impressed with this new addition to the Dacia range. With the Bigster, Dacia have certainly upped
the level of safety, convenience and space available, their target customer that of families with
active households and lifestyles. Prices start from €29,990 and €215 per month, the top-line
Extreme trim coming in at €37,840 in hybrid form. Those choosing metallic paint are asked for
€745, while the contrasting black roof, available only on Journey and Extreme trims, is priced at
€250.
Fence-sitters will have to find a new resting place with the arrival of the Bigster. Dacia have always
provided that ‘bang for your buck,’ and while some may have lacked the lure of the competition,
this latest model ticks a huge amount of boxes. This is definitely worthy of a place on y9ur test
derive list, accompanied by a test drive, after which, like me, you will purse your lips and deem this
very worthy of a space in your driveway.
Comfortable to drive, well appointed, well equipped and enough internal space to accommodate all
bar those of the Irish rugby front row. In against established veterans like the Nissan Qashqai, VW
Tiguan, Ford Kuga and KIA Sportage, the Bigster can stand its ground easily. Price and overall
offering set it apart and for families on a budget, that may just be enough.

The large wings over the wheels, and the position of the headlamps and rear lights at the far edges
of the vehicle, reinforce Bigster's assertive on-road stance.
Space and Dimensions
Standing at 1.71m tall, 4.57m in length and 1.81m wide, the Bigster comes with up to 702 litres of
boot space, with the rear seats folding 40:20:40 and a centre armrest featuring cupholders and
slots for rear seat passengers’ devices. The rear seats can be folded simply using a release lever in
the boot. Folded flat, the space rises to 1,912 litres for the hybrid version, and 2002 litres for the
petrol model.
Bigster propulsion
Dacia offer the TCe 140 engine, an upgrade of the TCe 130 available on Duster and features 48V
mild hybrid technology. Combined with a 6-speed manual gearbox, this engine offers lively
performance, with fuel consumption of just 5.6l/100km.
New Hybrid 155 engine
Customers choosing a full hybrid powertrain on Bigster benefit from Renault Group’s new hybrid
155 engine. Compared with the hybrid 145 engine offered on Duster and Jogger, this new engine
offers more power, more torque, less consumption (as low as 4.6l/100km) and greater towing
capacity (up to 1 tonne depending on version). Combining regenerative braking with the high
energy recovery capacity of the battery and the efficiency of the automatic gearbox, Bigster can
remain in all-electric mode up to 80% of the time in the city, the car always starting up in all-
electric mode.
4x4 Bigster
Bigster’s mild hybrid 130 4x4 is built to head off into the giggle-weeds, assisted by their all-wheel
drive system mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox, and a 48V mild hybrid system. This hybrid
system supports the 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged engine during start-up and acceleration,
reducing fuel consumption and CO 2 emissions. Regenerative braking recharges the 0.8 kWh battery
as part of a process that is completely transparent to the driver.
Applying its Eco Smart approach, Dacia uses a large proportion of sustainable materials on Bigster
with 20% of recycled plastics. Starkle, a material invented by Dacia's engineers and first used on
Duster, contains up to 20% of recycled polypropylene. Used untreated and unpainted, it has a
smaller carbon footprint in manufacture. The lower body and wheel arch protection, as well as
parts of the front and rear bumpers are made from Starkle.
Driving Aids
Standard driving aids on all Bigster trim levels, include;
Advanced emergency braking system (urban/extra-urban with vehicle, pedestrian, cyclist,
and motorcycle detection)
Traffic sign recognition with speed alert
Rear park assist
Emergency stop signal
Lane change alert
Lane keeping assist
Driver attention warning
Emergency call system, eCall.
To make life easier for customers, Dacia has combined these features with a function called My
Safety. This allows the driver to immediately switch certain ADAS to custom mode on start-up, to
avoid having to adjust each one in no time.
Dacia Bigster is available to test drive and order now at Dacia’s 31 dealerships.
