Conventional Kia K4 doesn’t do complicated

We are now in month three of 2026 and the folk in KIA have built up a serious head
of steam with the introduction last December of their EV5, followed by their
commercial PV5 van in January and now this week, their new hatchback, the K4, and
their updated Stonic. In quarter two of this year, we will also see their new EV2 make
its debut and effectively complete the very comprehensive Kia car range.
This new K4 Hatchback sits in the ultra-competitive C-segment and amid the
plethora of SUV and Crossover. It is a straight-forward 5-door hatch, with a length of
4,440mm, is 1,850mm wide and is 1,435mm in height, suiting those who like the
conventional of old. Boot space is 328litres.
Wearing its family resemblance via its headlights and Day Running Lights, the K4
has an appealing modern presence in the carpark, the panel fit, finish and build
quality above criticism.
The K4 is powered by a 1.0 T-GDI Mild-Hybrid (MHEV) petrol engine producing
115bhp, and driven through a very slick six-speed manual transmission, or seven-
speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. A 1.6 GDI Hybrid (HEV) version, with 154
PS will arrive before the end of the year.

A brief launch drive through the Dublin/Wicklow mountains was very enjoyable, not
least because the rain of recent months has ceased coupled to the opportunity to
sample a fully manual transmission on dry twisty roads. Given that the majority of
owners don’t gallop around mountain roads and conduct their driving on
open/motorway/urban roads, the K4 was equally at home in those environments and
I would feel very confident that new owners will find it competent company in all
they ask of it.
Front-wheel drive, petrol propelled, no charging issues, this Kia hatch is deserving of
a place on your test car list.
Available in three trim levels, the introductory baseline model, the K2, is priced from
