If you are born prior to 1990, the motoring identifier, Deux Cheveaux or 2CV, will
very probably not resonate with you. Those of us more crispy will nod heads and
smile, as we riminess on this odd shaped, funny sounding French car for the people
that only Citroen could bring from concept to reality, famously making its presence
known worldwide alongside Roger Moore in the James Bond film, For Your Eyes
Only.
Yes, it is harking strongly on nostalgia, but there is naught wrong with a bit of worthy
reminiscence and true to their penchant to be daring in design and duly proud of
their design history, the folk at Stellantis and Citroën has officially confirmed the
integration of a new model into its product line-up, which will capture the spirit of
this legendary 2CV, where Citroën will reinterpret the philosophy inherent in the
original Deux Cheveaux for a new generation.
This new 2CV will be affordable, of lightweight design, be practicality, versatility and
a possess distinctive character unlike anything else on the road. Yep, I’ll have some of
that.
Conceived as a modern electric mobility that will satisfy ever-growing urban
regulations, it will contribute to the emergence of a new category of affordable small
electric vehicles, offering greater freedom of movement with no compromise on
personality or desirability.
Out there already in this regard is the ëC3, with a 200km range version starting at
€22,455 in Ireland - already offers a tangible solution to today’s mobility challenges.
Xavier Chardon, Citroën CEO, speaking on the announcement of the 2CV,
commented: “Reinventing the 2 CV of tomorrow is a huge challenge and
responsibility. The original 2 CV was never created to become an icon. It became one
because it gave people freedom. The new 2 CV will carry that same spirit forward —
not through nostalgia, but by reinventing its simplicity and accessibility for today’s
world. Electric. Essential. Affordable. Human. Just like the original once
democratized mobility, the new 2 CV will re-enchant electric mobility for a new
generation through a highly desirable model. The return of the 2 CV is not simply the
return of a legendary name. It is the return of a bold and optimistic idea of progress.
A profoundly Citroën idea.“
