BYD IRELAND APPOINTED TO REPRESENT BYD RENEWABLE ENERGY PRODUCTS

Published on 23rd February 2026 at 20:52

Motor Distributors Limited (MDL), importers of BYD vehicles, are expanding its
product offering in Ireland to include BYD renewable energy products range of solar
panels, batteries, inverters and vehicle chargers.
For MDL, whose history dates back to the 1940s, the appointment will increase
BYD’s footprint in the Irish market and build on its achievements since the brand
was first launched here in April 2023. On foot of significantly growing its dealer
network, with more appointments to follow imminently, BYD has achieved a top-4
position in Ireland’s EV sales league – starting 2026 strongly with over 1,000 units
sold in January alone.
Commenting on their appointment, MDL chief executive, Paddy Finnegan said: “our
extended mandate to represent BYD renewable energy products represents a new
and exciting challenge that is wholly in-line with the needs of the Irish industry at
this time, and of all seeking to equip themselves and their businesses with an
independent stand-by source of power and energy which they can generate
themselves”.
In terms of function, as their name suggests, BYD renewable energy products work
by storing electrical energy in batteries for later use, thereby helping to stabilise the
power grid, integrate renewable energy sources like solar, and provide backup power.
“With an increasing focus on Ireland’s capacity to generate electricity sufficient to
meet the country’s needs, the arrival on the market of BYD renewable energy
products can’t have been timelier. With market appeal in terms of all-inclusive
specifications and a price-to-value offer of similar scale to that of BYD’s vehicle
range, BYD is putting energy storage systems and capacity within reach of an even
wider community of owners than ever before,” Mr. Finnegan added.
Building on BYD’s extensive experience in the field of battery-electric power
generation (exemplified in their high-performing, cobalt-free Blade Battery
technology used to drive their EV models), under MDL management, BYD renewable
energy products will be marketed to a broad spectrum of industrial, commercial,
institutional, and domestic users.
Tasked to manage and oversee the launch in Ireland is an experienced team headed
by MDL Director, Rob O’Hara. According to Mr. O’Hara “our first and primary task
will be to establish appropriate communications and supply channels to introduce
the complete portfolio of BYD renewable energy products to the extremely wide and
multi-faceted customer base”.
“With the products to help solve some of the challenges we face, we are well
positioned to support Ireland in its grid upgrade. We will open sales avenues to the
countless numbers of businesses, service providers, householders, homeowners, and
others whose requirement is for an independent and economical source of primary
or back-up power,” Mr. O’Hara added.
In addition to heavy-duty installations geared to the needs of large industrial and

commercial users, systems included in the BYD renewable energy products mix
include the new Battery-Box HVE version, said by BYD to be ‘the first integrated
residential energy storage system’
